d'ice cream is yummySix teams from Osseo Area Schools placed first, second or third at the Minnesota State Destination Imagination (DI) Tournament on April 22 and qualified to compete at the Destination Imagination Global Finals later this month in Knoxville, Tenn.

Held each spring, the DI Global Finals brings together more than 8,000 students on 1,400 teams from 16 countries. At the meet, students solve open-ended challenges that encompass STEM, Improvisation, Performance, and Visual Arts skills. During the competition—held this year from May 23-28—participants have the opportunity to present their Challenge solutions and interact with DI teams from around the world.

Rush Creek Elementary
For the first time in school history, Rush Creek Elementary will send two teams to the Global Finals, as “D’Ice Cream is Yummy” placed second at state in the Improvisation category and “Manly People” placed third in Scientific. (D’Ice Cream is Yummy team members are Wyatt Bjugstad, Megan Holmgren, Bella Lewis, Sophie Negrete, Jazzy Tew and Katherine Bearce; Manly People team members are Thomas Botkin, Cecilia DeOliviera, Jack Faatz, Elliot Hibbard, Brayden Kaiser and Kat Klopotek.) The teams are coached by Liz Botkin and Laura Thompson.

In Knoxville, both Rush Creek teams will also compete in an “Instant Challenge” event that requires them to engage in quick, creative and critical thinking.

To help offset some of the costs associated with attending the Global Finals, the Rush Creek teams have started a fundraising site.
